OPTIMISM BREWING

Optimism is a brewery founded by husband and wife Troy Hakala and Gay Gilmore in 2013. It took more than a year to secure a location for the brewery and rehabilitation on the 100 year old warehouse took almost two years.  Optimism is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle at the corner of Broadway and E Union Street (Map). The brewery opened and we served our first beers on December 5, 2015 (the anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition).

Optimism is a brewery, not a brewpub, focused solely on making beer. We will not have a kitchen or serve food. Instead, we host an ever-changing group of family-owned food trucks parked in our beer garden. In addition, beer-lovers are free to bring take-out food from local restaurants or have food delivered to the brewery. Kids and dogs are welcome as well!

We always wanted the brewery to be on Capitol Hill because we live here, and we live here because we love Capitol Hill’s diversity and culture. We chose to raise our kids on Capitol Hill, so raising our brewery here too makes sense to us. It’s a bit financially crazy to put a big brewery here, but it was important to us to be in the neighborhood.
